Lucy Mackie, Junghans take out major OA awards

Big Foot teenager Lucy Mackie has been named Orienteering Australia's athlete of the year for her stunning performances at the last year's MTBO world championships.

Lucy, pictured far left, won silver in the Middle Distance and was 7th in the Long in Lithuania, serving notice to the Europeans of her prowess. Her award was announced at the recent Easter carnival in Tasmania.

Congratulations also go to Garingal couple Ron and Barbara Junghans, who won the Silva Award for Services to Orienteering. The Sydneysiders have been at the heart of all things O for close on 40 years. This lifelong dedication culminated in Barbara organising last year's Australian championships at Bathurst and Hill End.

The Junghans also took out the ONSW President's Award in 2017.

The Silva Award for Services to Coaching went to Queensland's Wendy Read. Wendy has served as National Senior Coach/Manager for Australia and has taken the team to WOC many times. She has also been Bushrangers Coach, and at Qld level she managed the Cyclones for many year. Congratulations Wendy on a well-deserved award.

Bob Mouatt won the David Hogg Medal for Services to Event Management.
