Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Hills win Course Setter of the Year award

Congratulations to Matthew and Barbara Hill who have been named ONSW Course Setters of the Year for 2017.

The mother-and-son combination delivered outstanding courses at our recent NSW Sprint Champs at PLC Pymble, beating a high-quality field of setters in a heavy year of events for ONSW.

Here is some of the praise for the courses...

"Loved the fact that there was route choice to almost every control, right from the start - to stairs or not to stairs?"

"The map was extraordinary, the courses so well thought out and all in aid of a wonderful charity. What more could you want? NSW should be proud of such excellence."

"Great, fun course in an extremely complex area which was hard to read even on 1:3000. I found it almost impossible to read the course ahead most of the times and soon into the race stopped reading descriptions as well... no time!"

"A few fast legs added an extra challenge of getting into oxygen debt (I did a series of mistakes right at the end). Plenty of solid route choices too."

The last major award to be announced for 2017 is the Interclub trophy, which has been retained by the Newcastle club based on its performances at State League events.

All our major award winners can be viewed in our archive. We congratulate all our winners and thank everyone for filling out the surveys.
